BioSoil Farm, Inc. Announces new subsidiary, Empire State Hemp Cooperative
Glenville, New York, July 25, 2019 – BioSoil Farm has hit the trifecta of economic growth for New York State: job creation, the rehabilitation of shuttered commercial and industrial spaces, and the attraction of new businesses to economically-challenged areas, with the bonus of environmental sustainability.
In response to initiatives from Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, BioSoil Farm is poised to help New York State establish itself as the “High Quality” leader of indoor, continuous hemp production through its newest subsidiary, “Empire State Hemp Cooperative” or ESHC. In 2015, the governor launched the Industrial Hemp Agricultural Research Pilot Program to investigate the possibilities for the growth and processing of industrial hemp, a multi-million dollar crop that is used in over 25,000 products across a variety of industries, including the clothing, food, building and pharmaceutical industries. Following this research, in 2017, the governor lifted the ban on the number of sites where farmers can grow hemp. Congress gave another boost to the hemp industry when it passed the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, removing hemp from the controlled substances list, thus making it legal to grow in all 50 states. Hemp is the primary source of CBD oil, estimated to be a $40bil industry by 2023.
In addition to ESHC’s indoor, continuous grow initiative, ESHC stands ready to help farmers with education, training, and a place to market their product. In order to help establish New York as the hemp production epicenter of the east coast, ESHC is in the process of identifying “Hemp Hubs” in strategic locations across the State. Hemp Hubs will create approximately 15 jobs/20,000 square feet of indoor grow space with a salary range of $35k-$55k. ESHC’s plan is to acquire shuttered manufacturing and warehouse space, rehabilitate those spaces, and turn them into education, training and indoor growing centers. “The hope is that by rehabilitating shuttered commercial and industrial sites in opportunity zones, we can achieve our indoor and outdoor hemp yield goals and draw other hemp related businesses to the area,” said Chad Currin, founder and CEO of BioSoil Farm. In addition, BioSoil Farm would establish a central location where farmers could immediately sell their crops. Currin continued, “Our first Hemp Hub is located in Glenville, NY, is operational and producing high quality grade hemp flower and CBD oil content”.
“I view this not only as a partnership with New York State, but also a very strong partnership at the local level because we can literally train, educate and grow hemp anywhere that we want. Those Counties/Municipalities that show an interest in wanting to establish a “Hemp Hub” in New York State will be pleasantly surprised by the immediate economic impact,” said Jeff Frankel, Board Chair at BioSoil.
“New York is the perfect climate for growing hemp, and it’s perfect for New York farmers,” Frankel added.
BioSoil Farm began as a worm farm in Glenville, New York producing quality worm castings and has evolved into a controlled-environment, soil-based hemp farm. In everything the company does, it has an eye on being organic and sustainable, as well as socially and economically responsible.
